ALL THE SWIMSUITS YOU NEED THIS SUMMER IF YOU'RE PETITE & CURVY

I think it’s safe to say that swimsuit shopping is not usually an activity many of us look forward to. Aside from the complications of figuring out what size to wear in different brands, we tend to dread it because it means confronting what our body looks like (after months of hiding under layers during the winter). Swimwear hasn’t really been my favorite category to shop for either. When I was younger going swim shopping tended to be a reminder of the abs I didn’t have and my stretch marks on my upper thighs. Over time, I’ve gotten more comfortable in my own skin, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have days where I still feel self conscious.

This shoppable swim guide ended up being a continuation of a post I wrote last year about my favorite swim trends. Most of the trends I loved in Summer 2018 (sporty one pieces, plunging v-necks, etc.) are still going strong this season! There’s nothing I love more than fashion trends that have staying power because seriously who has the time to keep up with all the changes!

As you go through the swimsuit shopping process this year, I hope you know that if something doesn’t fit you, it’s more of a reflection of the fashion industry needing to get with the program from a sizing perspective than it is about the worthiness and value of your body. So have fun with it and don’t take it too seriously!

THE PEAR NECESSITIES: THE WHITE T-SHIRT

I originally published this blog post over a year and a half ago. It was my first post ever in the Pear Necessities series. Since it’s been a popular post, I wanted to update with recommendations you can shop versus only offering how I think about shopping for t-shirts.

For me, finding a good fitting t-shirt can be just as challenging and time consuming as finding the perfect pair of jeans, which is kind of crazy since both are staple items in almost everyone’s closet. There are three key things I evaluate when looking for the perfect t-shirts: neckline, fit, and fabric. While these features are a good place to start in figuring out what will work best for your body type, I’ve learned you pretty much always have to try things on to figure out what will work. Let’s be real - this because very few brands are sized the same way.

J. CREW PLUNGE V-NECK BIKINI TOP & BOTTOM REVIEW

I actually wrote this review 3 years ago, but I decided to republish because it still holds true and I still own this bathing suit! Recently, on the blog I’ve been talking more about investing in your wardrobe. Basically, how do you find stylish, quality pieces that will last. (But not too trendy you want to throw them out after a season!) J.Crew’s bathing suits are definitely on the pricier side generally $100 - $150 for an entire suit (top and bottom), however they do stand the test of time! As I mentioned at the beginning, I’ve had this suit for over 3 years and I’m happy to report it’s in good condition.

THIRDLOVE BRAS REVIEW

I’m going to start out this post with a bit confession…

(Hope you don’t judge me!)

One thing I’m super lazy about buying are bras. I’ve heard that you’re technically supposed to replace them every 6 months to a year. However, that has not been the case for me at all.

I couldn’t tell you when I last got the Victoria’s Secret Pink T-shirt bras that I normally wear. As of late though, my old bras were getting more and more uncomfortable so I knew it was time to get some new ones.

However, this time rather than going to VS, I decided to take my sister’s suggestion and try Third Love.

I’ve heard all about their fit quiz so I decided it was worth a shot. After going through the process, it recommend that I try their 24/7 Classic T-Shirt bra (which I feel like they must recommend to everyone that takes the quiz) plus three other styles. Out of their recommendations, the 24/7 Classic T-Shirt bra was the only one I tried. However, I did order a few other styles they didn’t directly recommend because I thought they looked cute. Overall, I found the fit quiz most helpful for deciding which size to buy, but less helpful for deciding what styles to buy.

Spoiler alert…when it comes to bras I’m pretty boring and only wear T-shirt or bra-lettes that are nude or white. If it can’t be worn with literally everything I own, I won’t buy it. I’m too lazy to deal with different colored bras and make sure it won’t through whatever top or blouse I decided to wear.

MY LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH FAST FASHION

This blog post is one I’ve thought about writing for a few years, but I was never entirely sure how to approach the topic.

Does anyone else have a love/hate relationship with fast fashion?

From news articles to documentaries, the problematic nature of fast fashion is being reported on more than ever. What once was touted as a genius business model that minimized risks for retailers is now widely criticized for harming the planet.

Having worked in the fashion industry and spent time educating myself on sustainable fashion, I know that fast fashion isn’t great for the planet. However, at the same time I know it can be difficult to consume sustainably 100% of the time whether it’s for price or size reasons. Many times the sustainable options are not offered in petite sizes. For example, while Reformation carries some options the number of styles they offer in petite sizes tends to vary from season to season. I hate to admit it but often times fast fashion brands like ASOS and Topshop do they best job catering to my size.

WHERE TO FIND PAPER-BAG PANTS WHEN YOU'RE PETITE & PEAR SHAPED

Recently, I had a reader reach out about where to buy petite paper bag pants. This an item I’ve struggled to find as well. I’ve only found one pair from Topshop a few years back that I truly love. You might notice reading this post that I only sharing style from two different brands, however these were the only ones I could find that I genuinely liked. Further proof that petite ladies always have less options to choose from :(

10 THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME

I can’t believe I’m writing this sentence, but it’s been nearly 4 years since I started this blog. It’s incredible how the time has flown. Recently, I realized that I haven’t ever written a true “get to know me” post for the blog. Since there have been some new faces around recently, I felt compelled to write one. Happy reading and can’t wait to see if we have anything in common!

THE PEAR NECESSITIES: THE WHITE BUTTON DOWN SHIRT

It’s been a long time since I’ve gone shopping for button down shirt. Generally, I stay away from this category because I find it challenging to shop for. Often times when a button down fits my bust area it’s then too tight it hip area! Can anyone else relate? However, recently one of my friends reached out about where to find a good button down and I realized I had NO IDEA off the top of my head! So I decided to order styles from a variety of brands to figure out which ones are truly pear-friendly! Keep reading to find out what brands I recommend!

THE PEAR NECESSITIES: THE SHEATH DRESS

Recently, I’ve started writing more clothing fit review posts on my blog. The main reason I started doing this is because I think it’s one way I can best serve you ladies. Personally, I find shopping to be an exhausting and demoralizing process so my goal is to spare you from it as much as possible. By trying on clothes and exposing you to new petite brands, my goal is to save you from hours in the dressing room and increase the chance you’ll find a piece you love without ordering from every brand under the sun.

In writing this post I realized, “ Man…It’s hard out there for petite girl to find a sheath dress that falls above your knees.” Generally, when I buy other styles of dresses in a petite size the length is fine so I was actually surprised to have this issue. However, I think it’s just the style of sheath dress most brands sell. Most seemed to be more on the conservative side from a length perspective, which is great for individuals with that fit preference, but leaves the rest of us having to always get dressed hemmed.

Keep on reading for my favorite sheath dress options for petite pears!

EXPRESS PETITES REVIEW

I’m excited to share this review because I’ve been wanting to check out more items from Express’ petite line ever since trying out their coats last Fall. It’s definitely been a while since I’ve shopped at Express. Honestly, I probably haven’t stepped foot in one since middle or high school. Was anyone else completely obsessed with their cami tank tops and t-shirts back in the day? While Express isn’t my go-to store, I’m always game to check out a brand that offers petite sizes.

3 WAYS TO STYLE OVER THE KNEE BOOTS & LOOK TALLER

Living in New York, I’ve found that having a decent pair of over the knee boots is a necessity. Not only are they necessary for beating the cold, but they’re also an easy footwear option that pair well with most outfits. I will say the New Yorker in me does have a strong tendency to buy black, but hopefully you’ll spice up your wardrobe more than I do :)

I’ll go ahead and admit right now that I don’t have any hard and fast rules about what style boots I wear for my body type and height. At the end of the day for me, it mostly comes down to personal preference and style. However, there are still a couple of tricks that can help you look taller, which never hurts!
