ALL THE SWIMSUITS YOU NEED THIS SUMMER IF YOU'RE PETITE & CURVY

I think it’s safe to say that swimsuit shopping is not usually an activity many of us look forward to. Aside from the complications of figuring out what size to wear in different brands, we tend to dread it because it means confronting what our body looks like (after months of hiding under layers during the winter). Swimwear hasn’t really been my favorite category to shop for either. When I was younger going swim shopping tended to be a reminder of the abs I didn’t have and my stretch marks on my upper thighs. Over time, I’ve gotten more comfortable in my own skin, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have days where I still feel self conscious.

This shoppable swim guide ended up being a continuation of a post I wrote last year about my favorite swim trends. Most of the trends I loved in Summer 2018 (sporty one pieces, plunging v-necks, etc.) are still going strong this season! There’s nothing I love more than fashion trends that have staying power because seriously who has the time to keep up with all the changes!

As you go through the swimsuit shopping process this year, I hope you know that if something doesn’t fit you, it’s more of a reflection of the fashion industry needing to get with the program from a sizing perspective than it is about the worthiness and value of your body. So have fun with it and don’t take it too seriously!

THE PEAR NECESSITIES: THE WHITE T-SHIRT

I originally published this blog post over a year and a half ago. It was my first post ever in the Pear Necessities series. Since it’s been a popular post, I wanted to update with recommendations you can shop versus only offering how I think about shopping for t-shirts.

For me, finding a good fitting t-shirt can be just as challenging and time consuming as finding the perfect pair of jeans, which is kind of crazy since both are staple items in almost everyone’s closet. There are three key things I evaluate when looking for the perfect t-shirts: neckline, fit, and fabric. While these features are a good place to start in figuring out what will work best for your body type, I’ve learned you pretty much always have to try things on to figure out what will work. Let’s be real - this because very few brands are sized the same way.

THIRDLOVE BRAS REVIEW

I’m going to start out this post with a bit confession…

(Hope you don’t judge me!)

One thing I’m super lazy about buying are bras. I’ve heard that you’re technically supposed to replace them every 6 months to a year. However, that has not been the case for me at all.

I couldn’t tell you when I last got the Victoria’s Secret Pink T-shirt bras that I normally wear. As of late though, my old bras were getting more and more uncomfortable so I knew it was time to get some new ones.

However, this time rather than going to VS, I decided to take my sister’s suggestion and try Third Love.

I’ve heard all about their fit quiz so I decided it was worth a shot. After going through the process, it recommend that I try their 24/7 Classic T-Shirt bra (which I feel like they must recommend to everyone that takes the quiz) plus three other styles. Out of their recommendations, the 24/7 Classic T-Shirt bra was the only one I tried. However, I did order a few other styles they didn’t directly recommend because I thought they looked cute. Overall, I found the fit quiz most helpful for deciding which size to buy, but less helpful for deciding what styles to buy.

Spoiler alert…when it comes to bras I’m pretty boring and only wear T-shirt or bra-lettes that are nude or white. If it can’t be worn with literally everything I own, I won’t buy it. I’m too lazy to deal with different colored bras and make sure it won’t through whatever top or blouse I decided to wear.

THE PEAR NECESSITIES: THE WHITE BUTTON DOWN SHIRT

It’s been a long time since I’ve gone shopping for button down shirt. Generally, I stay away from this category because I find it challenging to shop for. Often times when a button down fits my bust area it’s then too tight it hip area! Can anyone else relate? However, recently one of my friends reached out about where to find a good button down and I realized I had NO IDEA off the top of my head! So I decided to order styles from a variety of brands to figure out which ones are truly pear-friendly! Keep reading to find out what brands I recommend!

REFORMATION WINTER COLLECTION REVIEW

Reformation is a brand that can be very hit or miss me. Sometimes styles fit very well and other times don’t seem to be cut for my body. Over the past couple times I’ve shopped, I find that I have the best luck with their dresses and tops. Recently I had the chance to visit their store and check out their latest pieces - keep reading for the full reviews of everything I tried on.

MY 3 GO-TO SKIRT STYLES AS A PETITE PEAR

Perhaps a more appropriate title for this blog post is - if you got it, flaunt it :) When I was younger, I used to feel embarrassed about my curves I was constantly wishing for a smaller butt and slimmer thighs. My goal was generally to hide these parts of my body rather than show them off. Now that I’m a bit older and wiser, I’ve learned to love them. Which brings me to the real purpose of this post - SKIRTS! They are an amazing way to show off your pear curves whatever your personal style might be. Keep reading for my favorite silhouettes and styling tricks!

EXPRESS PETITES REVIEW

I’m excited to share this review because I’ve been wanting to check out more items from Express’ petite line ever since trying out their coats last Fall. It’s definitely been a while since I’ve shopped at Express. Honestly, I probably haven’t stepped foot in one since middle or high school. Was anyone else completely obsessed with their cami tank tops and t-shirts back in the day? While Express isn’t my go-to store, I’m always game to check out a brand that offers petite sizes.

INVESTING IN MY WARDROBE: RAG & BONE BOOTS REVIEW

Last year I realized that I wanted to start investing more in the pieces in my wardrobe (ranging from clothes to footwear). There have been a number of fast fashion items in my closet that I’ve truly loved from a design perspective, but sadly they have worn out after a year or two. Personally, I’m someone who likes to find classic yet trend-forward and interesting pieces that will last me more than one season. While on my blog in the past I’ve highlighted a lot of different trends each season, I’ve realized through the process I prefer to have a more consistent style. (Plus I seriously don’t have the energy to shop all the time!) Don’t get me wrong, I still love trying out new trends from time to time, but I’ve learned that my overall personal style is less defined by following all the latest trends.

EVERLANE AUTHENTIC STRETCH DENIM REVIEW

After hearing rave reviews from my sister about Everlane’s Authentic Stretch denim, I decided to head to their store and try it on for myself. As someone who generally has a hard time finding jeans that fit, I was overall pretty impressed by their products. In addition to their Authentic Stretch jeans, Everlane also has their original denim line they launched prior to Authentic Stretch. Between the two lines, I was definitely a bigger fan of their Authentic Stretch styles because they fit me better in the waist. Sharing my thoughts below on a few of the styles!

ESHAKTI CUSTOM JUMPSUIT REVIEW

Jumpsuits can be a tough category to shop for when you’re petite and pear-shaped! The most common issues I run into are the legs being too long or the hip area being too tight. In the past, I’ve mostly shopped in the petite section to find jumpsuits. While this usually fixes the length issue, it doesn’t always fix the fit issues I experience in the hip area. So I decided to try out having a jumpsuit custom made to my measurements from eShakti.

5 TIPS TO SIMPLIFY SHOPPING FOR SHORTS

I find that shopping for shorts can be tricky with my body type! The most common issues I run into as a petite and pear-shaped lady are: waist gaps, tightness in the hip area, and shorts being too short since I have a bigger bum. In order to avoid these issues I’m sharing some of my tried and true shopping tips to help make the process easier for you.
