EXPRESS CURVY PETITE DENIM REVIEW

EXPRESS CURVY PETITE DENIM REVIEW

If you read my first Express review about their petites line back in January, then you know that prior to that I had no idea they offered petites. Similarly, I also had no idea that they carried curvy fit denim, which is literally made for our body type. Since I tried these jeans around the same time as the American Eagle curvy fit denim, I decided to compare and contrast the two! The main differences are that Express’ jeans are more expensive, however the denim material they use feels like a higher quality.

Waist = 28’’

MY DENIM RATING SCALE

Express Mid Rise Denim Perfect Curves Jean Legging 6 Petite

What I loved…

  • No waist gap - Thank goodness that Express offers curvy fit denim! Besides the Wit & Wisdom mid rise jeans I tried earlier this year, these are legit the only other mid rise jeans I’ve found that don’t leave me with a waist gap.

  • Thicker denim - Compared to the American Eagle jeggings, the Express ones feel more substantial and sturdy. They seem less likely to stretch out over time!

What could have been better…

  • Tight in calves - The only downside to these jeans is that the calf area is a bit tight! I definitely had to do a little dance to get them on. I feel like AE’s Curvy High Rise jeggings are comfier in this department. (Express calf measurement = 11.25’’) vs. (AE calf measurement = 12’’).

Express High Waisted Denim Perfect Curves Jean Legging- 6 Short

What I loved…

  • So comfortable - I loved how these jeans fit me! Unlike the mid-rise jeans (above) these were not too tight in the calf area and felt much more comfortable. Also no waist gap here either ;)

  • Flattering - Even though they are a lighter wash jean, I still find them flattering for my body shape! Not to mention this pair hugged my curves perfectly too!

Express Super High Waisted Black Legging - Size 6 Short

What I loved…

  • Fit - Although these jeggings aren’t curvy fit, they still fit me decently well. Admittedly, there was still a slight waist gap in back, but it was minimal compared to other jeans I’ve tried. However, that being said I’d still prefer to buy the Curvy High Rise jeans over these.

What could have been better…

  • Tight in calves - Similar to the mid rise jeggings above, these felt tight in the calves. (Calf measurement = 11.5’’)

Waist gap: 4

Garment measurements:

Waist = 29.25’’

Verdict: Technically fits, but would recommend the high rise curvy fit over this pair.

Express High Waisted Denim Perfect Dark Wash Jean Leggings - 6 Short

What I loved…

  • No waist gap - These are also not a curvy fit jean, but I’m happy to report they are waist gap free. It just goes to show that if you’re pear shaped, high waisted jeans truly are your friend!

  • Fit - I tried on this style in both a Size 6 Short and 6 Petite. You’re probably wondering what the heck is the difference?! Generally speaking, most brand’s petite sizing assumes that a petite customer is not only shorter than the regular size customer, but they are also physically smaller. For example, they assume the customer’s thighs, calves, etc. are smaller. You can see this assumption in the measurements below. The Size 6 Short jean has a thigh measurement of 20.25’’ and the Size 6 Petite has a thigh measurement of 19.75’’. While it doesn’t seem like a huge difference, I could definitely feel it when I was wearing them. My preference was for the Size 6 Short because it was larger in the hips, thigh and calves. The Petite size felt much more restrictive to me.
