Hi.

I'm Kristin! A short & curvy girl seeking clothes that fit. Originally from the South, I'm now taking on NYC! My blog is dedicated to providing style and fit guides for petite-pear shaped women.

WHERE TO FIND WIDE-LEG CROPPED PANTS WHEN YOU'RE PEAR-SHAPED

WHERE TO FIND WIDE-LEG CROPPED PANTS WHEN YOU'RE PEAR-SHAPED

Everywhere I turn on Instagram, I see cropped wide leg pants! I really love how this style looks on others, but I haven’t been totally sure about how to translate it for my body type and height. After trying on a bunch of different styles across brands, I came up with three simple tips to help simplify your shopping if you’re petite and pear-shaped like me.

1. Look for high-rise styles (Front rise measurement 10’’ and higher)

2. Look for pants with a more tapered leg opening

3. Look for pants with inseam lengths between 22’’ and 25’’ (if you’re about my height of 5’ 2’’)

MY MEASUREMENTS

Bust = 33’’

Waist = 27.5’’

Stomach = 31’’

Hip = 38.5’’

Thigh = 22’’

Calf = 12.25’’

Inseam = 27’’

Bicep = 9.5’’

MY PANT RATING SCALE

Length: 1 to 5 (1 being not petite friendly, 5 being petite friendly)

Fit: 1 to 5  (1 being not curve/pear friendly, 5 being curve/pear friendly)

Waist Gap: 1 to 5 (1 massive waist gap, 5 no waist gap)

Price: $ to $$$$ ($ under $50, $$ under $100, $$$ under $150, $$$$ $150+)

GRLFRND Campbell Wide Leg Cropped Pant - Size 27

What I loved…

  • Fit - Out of all the wide leg pants I tried on, the fit of the GRLFRND pants was by far my favorite. They had a higher rise and more tapered leg shape, which elongated my legs compared to the other styles I tried on.

  • Length - Although this style isn’t offered in a petite size, the length is definitely petite friendly so they still look cropped on me. (Inseam length = 25’’)

What could have been better…

  • Tight in the hip area - Sadly, these were way too tight in the hip area on me. You can see the stress marks around the hip and crotch area. Going up a size would definitely help alleviate this issue, but then the waist will likely too big on me. I’d recommend ordering your normal size and one size down. If you pick the bigger size, you’ll definitely need to wear a belt!

Banana Republic Wide Leg Cropped Knit Pant - Size Petite Small

What I loved…

  • No waist gap - Thank goodness for elastic waistbands! They literally solve all of my fit problems because these cropped pants fit perfectly in the waist!

  • Very comfortable - The knit fabric was super soft and comfy! This is a great style if you’re feeling lazy on the weekend, but also want to look like you put some effort into your outfit.

Everlane Wide Leg Crop Pant - Size 6 Short

What I loved…

  • Very comfortable fabric - So this is actually my second time trying out this pant! The one thing I loved most about this pant every time I’ve tried it on is the super soft fabric. It’s sturdy and stretchy at the same time.

  • Fit - Overall, the fit of these pants was pretty good. They fit well through my hip and bum area.

What could have been better…

  • Leg opening - While I appreciate that Everlane offers this pant in a short length because it’s more petite-friendly, I have to say the leg opening is massive. I think the leg opening could be better proportioned for petites specifically.

  • Slightly big in waist - No surprise here since I experience this issue often with pants. If you do end up buying, I recommend wearing a belt.

Ann Taylor Petite Marina Wide Leg Cropped Pant - Size 6 Petite

What I loved…

  • Fabric - Not only was the fabric super soft, but it also looked super polished.

  • Length - Overall, I think this pair of wide leg pants was the best cropped length for my height.

What could have been better…

  • Too big in the waist - Not only were these pants to big for me, but there also weren’t any belt loops :(

Point Sur Washed Wide Leg Cropped Pant - Size 28 Petite

What I loved…

  • Length was good - Similar to the Ann Taylor wide leg cropped pants, these are a very petite friendly length. (Inseam length = 23.125’’)

What could have been better…

  • Silhouette - Out of all the wide leg pants I tried on, I think this pair made me look the most bulky. Personally, I found the other styles I tried to be more flattering for my body type and height.

  • Fit funny in crotch area - I wanted to love these pants, but they fit funny in the crotch area. You can see they are pulling in a noticeable way around the crotch. Eek! Not cute!

Old Navy Mid-Rise Slim Wide Leg Cropped Pant - Size 6 Petite

What I loved…

  • More subtle wide leg - If you’re looking for a wide leg pant with a less dramatic leg opening than these are a great option.

What could have been better…

  • Run small - These fit me perfectly in the waist, but they felt too tight in the hip area. I’d recommend ordering your normal size plus one size up. If you do size up, you most likely will need to wear a belt.

  • Fit funny in crotch area - Similar to the J. Crew pants, these were just too tight in crotch area so there were obvious stress marks.
