I'm Kristin! A short & curvy girl seeking clothes that fit. Originally from the South, I'm now taking on NYC! My blog is dedicated to providing style and fit guides for petite-pear shaped women.

Let’s face it when you’re petite, it’s much harder to shop for activewear. Workout tanks end up looking like dresses and mile-long leggings leave you wondering were your feet are. In an effort to make the shopping process a little bit easier for you, I rounded up some affordable activewear finds to help you kick off the new year. This post is organized into three different categories: $30 and under finds, $60 and under finds, and $100 and under finds. So hopefully, everyone will be able to find something that fits their personal budget! (For more reading on petite-friendly active brands, check out my post here.)

  1. Old Navy Crossback Keyhole Performance Tank for Women - $19.99. I have a version of this tank from an earlier season (pictured above) and it’s still one of my favorite workout tops. While I was slightly worried about their quality before buying it, I’ve been impressed how long their clothes have held up. (I’ve had this top for 2 years now.)

  2. Forever 21 Active Marled Pullover - $22.90. - Since Forever 21 is primarily geared towards juniors/teens, I often find their clothes work well for my size. In general, the length to their tops are shorter, which works well for my short torso.

  3. GapFit Breathe Twist-Back Tank Top - $29.95. Super happy to see that GAP is now offering petite sizes in their activewear - now I have another place to shop! I really love the twist detail in back. Looks like a great tank for a yoga or barre class. Another great feature is the swing hem because it’s more accommodating for curvy hips like mine.

  4. Forever 21 Active Tech Capri Leggings - $17.90. While Forever 21 does not technically offer petite sizes there are a couple of hacks to find petite-friendly fits. For example, these leggings are a 17.5’’ inseam, which works well for shorter legs. (Generally, most athletic brands carry capri length leggings with a 21’’ inseam.)

  5. GapFit Breathe Racerback Tank - $24.95. A highly-rated basic knit tank that comes in lots of colors (even in petites! Such a rarity!)

  6. Lands’ End Women's Active Short Sleeve T-Shirt - $29.95. While I haven’t covered this brand as much on my blog, it’s a great option for us short gals.

  7. Old Navy 1/4-Zip Performance Pullover for Women - $29.99. When you’re not hitting the gym and working out outside, I love layering on a 1/4 zip over top of my shirt to stay warm. This one from Old Navy is super affordable!

  8. Old Navy Fitted Mesh-Trim Performance Tank for Women - $22.99. Good news Old Navy offer this tank in a petite size so the length will be just right for us shorties :)

  9. Old Navy Semi-Fitted Strappy Mesh-Back Tank for Women - $19.99. I love the straps on this tank because it’s a nice update to just your standard workout tank. Also it looks like a wider cut tank at the hem so if you’re curvy like me - it’ll give your hips some room to breathe.

  10. Old Navy High-Rise Compression Run Crops for Women - $29.99. These leggings are a 19.5’’ inseam so they will be actually be capris on us petites rather than high waters! Not to mention they have 4.6 stars.

  1. Under Armour Anklette Mesh Cropped Leggings - $50. These leggings are so cool looking - I really love them! Since these are ankle length, they will be full length leggings for us petites. So not exactly a petite size, but does the job.

  2. Athleta Limitless Top - $54. This is a nice basic long sleeve top to layer underneath your 1/4 Zip when you’re running or exercising outside.

  3. Nike® Dri-FIT Workout Capris - $45. While Nike does not offer true petite sizes, these leggings have a 19.5’’ inseam. This length works well for those of us with shorter legs.

  4. Nike Women's Short Sleeve Running Top - $35. Although this is a regular size, the length would likely work well for a shorter torso since it’s a more fitted style.

  5. Nike One Women's 7/8 Length Training Tights - $55. Repeat after me…7/8 length leggings are my best friend. What are cropped leggings to the world, are just right for us.

  6. Under Armour HeatGear Printed Cropped Performance Leggings - $55. Once again the ankle length leggings coming to the rescue!

  7. Athleta Limitless Heather Keyhole Tank - $44. This tank is a cool update to your standard workout tank. The front body length for petites is 24.5’’ so it should work well for those of us with shorter torsos.

  8. Athleta Limitless Tank - $39. I own a similar version to this tank from them, which has served me well. They have a nice variety of neutral colors.

  9. Under Armour HeatGear Armour Capris - $49.99. I’ve had this pair of capri leggings in my closet for a while and they are awesome! They have a shorter inseam so they will actually be capris for us petites.

  10. Under Armour Cropped Scoop-Neck Activewear Muscle Tank - $40. Thank goodness for cropped length tops. This one will be a nice length for us petites.

  1. Lululemon Define Pullover - $98. While Lululemon is not always my go-to activewear store (since they don’t offer petite sizes), they do have high-quality pieces they will last you a long time. Another bonus is their free hemming service. So if you find a top you love and it’s too long for you, they will hem it for free :)

  2. Outdoor Voices TechSweat 7/8 Flex Leggings - $75.  Just received these as a Christmas present and I’m very excited. You can read my full review of them here. To give you the quick high level summary though, I’m happy Outdoor Voices came out with this new fabric because it’s much softer and more comfortable than their original Springs leggings.

  3. Nike Women’s Essential Full Vest - $80. Love this vest as a top layer to throw on over your pullover when you’re running outside. It has a high/low hemline, which generally works better for a shorter torso.

  4. Lululemon Swiftly Tech Long Sleeve Crew - $78. There are so many cool pattern and color options available in this top. Again like I mentioned before, if this top is too long for your torso, just take advantage of their free hemming service.

  5. Athleta PrimaLoft® Alpine Valley Tight - $98. If you’re looking for tights to keep you warm during the winter for outdoor workouts, these are a nice option. They are available in a 26.5’’ inseam for petites.

  6. Athleta Cadence Heather Top - $74. I added this top to the mix because it’s a fun take on a classic long sleeve workout top. Not to mention I’m always a fan of gray!

  7. Athleta Pocket Capri In Powervita - $79. These mostly caught my eye because of the beautiful pink color. Really glad Athleta now has petite sizing for their capris. So you might be wondering if they’re worth the splurge, but in general I find Athleta has great quality and I’m able to keep their items for multiple years. Additionally, I find their sizing more curve friendly.

  8. Athleta Yin 7/8 Tight In Powervita - $89. Just because your petite, doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on the 7/8 length tight trend. Thankfully also offers these in a petite size so you can participate too.

  9. Nike Sportswear Windrunner Hooded Jacket - $100. Love this vintage style windbreaker from Nike. It’s a great extra layer to throw on when you’re running outside. Definitely necessary in New York with all the wind!

  10. Athleta Contender Laser Cut 7/8 Tight - $89. Super impressed that Athleta offers all the same colors in both petite and regular sizes for this style. (My petite girls know that like never happens!)
