UNIVERSAL STANDARD PETITES LINE REVIEW

UNIVERSAL STANDARD PETITES LINE REVIEW

I first heard of the brand Universal Standard a while back, however I never tried it because they previously only offered sizes 10-28. When I recently learned they expanded their sizing to include petites I was very happy! Additionally, last May they started offering a wider size range of 6-32. (I'm glad to see more brands move towards size inclusivity and attempt to serve the full spectrum of body diversity.)

So I decided to order a few of their new petite items to see how they fit. Overall, I have to say I was slightly disappointed and felt like their styles were still a little too long for petites. Read ahead for the full reviews item by item.

Universal Standard Petite Geneva Dress - Size 2XS (6-8)

What I loved…

  • Color - This is one of my favorite shades of green because it complements my hair color (light brown) and eye color (hazel).

What could have been better…

  • Overall look - I feel like this dress looked much better on the model. When I tried dress on, it didn’t seem to have the same draping effect as the picture on their website. Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed. While this isn’t a typical silhouette wear because it’s more oversized, if it was a little more tailored to my body type then I would be a fan.

Garment measurements:

Bust = 37’’

Neck drop = 2.75’’

Center front = 45’’

Verdict: Don’t buy, shop around for similar styles.

Universal Standard Petite Danube Heavyweight Jersey Skirt - Size 2XS (6-8)

What I loved…

  • Material - It’s made out of a super soft jersey fabric that’s comfortable enough for everyday wear.

  • Fits well - This skirt fit me like a glove. I was very happy with how well it fit in the waist area.

What could have been better…

  • Slightly long - I wish this skirt was slight shorter because it was kind of hard to walk in. However, it was still manageable and not a total deal breaker.

Garment measurements:

Waist = 28’’

Center front = 23’’

Hips = 33’’

Center back = 24’’

Verdict: Buy!

Universal Standard Loire Lite Ribbed Tank - Size 2XS (6-8)

What could have been better…

  • Too long - I hardly would have guessed that this tank top was a petite size because it was so long on me. It probably doesn’t help that I have a short torso.

  • Super high neckline - I wish the neckline was a little bit lower like a true scoop neckline.

Garment measurements:

Bust = 30’’

Center front = 24.75’’

Neck drop = 2.25’’

Center back = 25’’

Verdict: Don’t buy, shop around for similar styles.
