THE PETITE PEAR'S GUIDE TO PEACOATS
One item that has been on my shopping list for a while (out of pure necessity of living in NYC), but I have yet to buy is a peacoat. My goal is to find one that is both functional and fashionable because there is nothing cute about freezing your butt off during a New York City winter. And of course I want to find a coat that complements my pear-shaped body!
With Cyber Monday coming up very soon, I figured this would be the best time to get a good deal! I don’t know about you guys, but I find it hard to shop the Cyber Monday sales. I’m usually exhausted from traveling home for the holidays and catching up at work on the first day back. This year I decided to get a leg up on preparing for the Cyber Monday sales by using Desirelist to compile a list of all my favorite peacoats. That way all I have to do Monday is check the final prices of the styles on my list and make a final decision! On Monday, I won't have to spend time sifting through all the styles because I already found my top picks ahead of time. What’s great about Desirelist is that you can add your favorite styles from multiple retailers to your list and don’t have to stress about maintaining a shopping cart at every website you are considering buying from. Best of all though, Desirelist is basically a shopping cart that never expires so you don’t have to worry about all your hard work going to waste if your shopping cart accidentally gets deleted from a retailer’s website.
Buying coats can be a little tough when you are shopping online because they are a piece that you need really need to try on in order to know if it’s a good fit. I’m probably going to order a couple different styles and sizes to make sure I get one that works for me. When I’m shopping for coats especially online, I generally try to look for styles with the following features to find one that complements my petite, pear-shaped body.
Belted – As a petite pear, this is one of the main features I look for in a peacoat. I prefer styles that define my waist and highlight my curves. When I have tried on styles without a belt or defined waistline in the past, they made me look a little bulky.
A-Line - Another silhouette I love is an A-line coat like J. Crew’s Stadium Coat. This style is great because it gives my hips some room to breathe and doesn’t feel restrictive.
Petite sizing – I know this advice may seem like a no brainer if you’re short, but hear me out! The reason it’s important to buy a coat in a petite size is so the sleeves aren’t too long and the shoulders are properly proportioned for your frame. Also if you’re looking to buy a longer peacoat, it helps to get a petite size so it’s not too long.
Hope that my tips will help you with your winter coat shopping! Check out all the peacoats I’m currently obsessing over on my “Cyber Monday Wish List” here. You can sign up for Desirelist and create your own boards by clicking the link here. Desirelist is very easy and simple to use. All you have to do is add the Desirelist button to Google Chrome toolbar and click the button when your on a retailer's product page in order to add the item to your list. Would love to hear your thoughts about the platform in the comments below!
